Gene Wanzer

Dewey Gene Wanzer, Sr. was born on May 10, 1939, in Watonga, OK to Arthur Dewey and Mildred E. (Anderson) Wanzer. He passed away on October 5, 2022, in Watonga at the age of 83. Gene attended Oakwood schools and graduated from Canton High School before serving in the Army National Guard. He lived in the Oakwood, Putnam and Canton area his entire life and held various jobs throughout the area. Gene worked for Keck Farms, as a police officer in Canton, and worked at Okeene Feed Mill for 30-plus years. He enjoyed when his kids, grandkids, and great-grandkids visited. Sometimes he would put them to work while he supervised. He enjoyed buying, selling and trading various items and was once contacted by the television show American Pickers but declined their request. He loved mowing and being outdoors, tinkering with cars, and caring for his horses.

Survivors include his wife, Nancy Wanzer; his children and grandchildren: Lanet Wanzer and Tim Barnes of Longdale, OK, Dewey Wanzer, Jr. of Cheyenne Wells, CO, David Wanzer of Hennessey, OK, Lea Ann Stanley and husband, Mike of Canton, OK, Trisha Sawyer and husband Brandon of Watonga, OK, Robert Wanzer and wife Robyn of Southard, OK, Michael Wanzer and wife Misi of Oakwood, OK, and Jodie Miller and husband Jeremy of Longdale, OK; grandchildren: David, Mandie, T.J., Tasha, Amber, Shaniece, Justin, April, Trish, Michael, Ashlyn, Jordan, Richard, Michael, Tyler, Bryson, Dion, Dawson, Jaxson, Alex, Payton, Paisley, Christopher, Brooke, Summer, Joshua, Jensen, Michelle, Ashley, Justin and Whitney; multiple great grandchildren; one sister, Karen Shoemaker of Enid, OK; and many nieces, nephews, other relatives and many friends.

Gene was preceded in death by his parents, Arthur & Mildred Wanzer; son, Jesse Richards; and two brothers, Robert and Frank Wanzer.

Viewing for the family was held on Saturday from 9 a.m. to 9 p.m. A viewing for amily and friends was held from 1-9 p.m., and from 9 a.m. to 9 p.m. on Monday

Services were held at the Canton Christian Church on Tuesday, Oct. 11, at 11 a.m., in Canton,
